MEET DR. TRAVERSO

Dr. Purnell Traverso specializes in hand and wrist surgery in adults. Dr. Traverso has special expertise in the treatment of challenging problems of the forearm, wrist and hand. Dr Traverso is a Board Certified, Fellowship trained, hand and microvascular surgeon with subspecialty certificate in surgery of the hand. Dr. Traverso operates on both national and international patients, including Trinidad and the Caribbean.

Dr. Traverso has done research in stem cell transplantation as well as many areas of treatment of hand and wrist injuries. He completed his residency training at Howard University Hospital in Washington D.C. where he was honored as a ‘Chief Resident’ in 2013 and received the Howard University Chairman of Surgery Award for Most Outstanding Resident in 2012 as well as Intern of the Year in 2008.

After residency, Dr. Traverso completed his hand and wrist surgery training at the University of Connecticut under the world renowned Dr. Kirk Watson. While there, Dr. Traverso gained expertise in the care of the hand and wrist. Dr. Traverso completed his training in Microsurgery at Columbia University in New York.

Dr. Traverso is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and he is currently a member of numerous prestigious medical societies including the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association.

MEET DR. GELLMAN

Dr. Harris Gellman specializes in Orthopaedic hand and upper extremity surgery in adults and children. Dr. Gellman has special expertise in the treatment of challenging problems of the elbow, forearm, wrist and hand. Dr. Gellman has extensive experience specializing in the treatment of complex fractures and wrist and elbow joint injuries, arthritis, nerve disorders and reconstruction following trauma and reconstruction of children’s hand deformities but congenital and spastic.

Harris Gellman, M.D., graduated Temple University Medical School, and completed an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the Hospital University of Pennsylvania in 1984. Dr. Gellman then completed fellowship training in Hand, Upper Extremity, and Microvascular surgery at the University of California, San Diego in 1985.

Dr. Gellman has previously been Director of the Hand and Upper Extremity Divisions at University of Southern California, University of Arkansas, and Co-Chief of Hand Surgery University of Miami. Dr. Gellman is a Voluntary Clinical Professor of Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery at the University of Miami, and Clinical Professor, Orthopaedic Surgery Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. Gellman is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery with subspecialty certification in Hand Surgery. Societies include the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Research Society, and the Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Society.

Dr. Gellman has lectured both nationally and internationally, hosted medical information television and radio shows, authored more than 80 original scientific papers, has written many book chapters, and has authored two texts.

Dr. Gellman is a part of Broward Hand Center.
